Mental Health Awareness

When it comes to our mental health it can be challenging. We go about our days like normal and go to work. Our job involves taking care of things for other people. At home, we take care of the kids and the house. We constantly take care of other things and other people. But do we take enough time to care for ourselves and our mental health?

Many of you I know are going to say no. And why not? You know that if you get sick physically that it’s hard for you to take care of others. Well, the same goes for if you get sick mentally. And what I mean is not necessarily with a mental illness but becoming over-stressed. Let’s say the office wants all that paperwork done by such and such day. That puts a lot of stress on you. If you continue to be stressed without taking time to release it, you can become mentally sick. And when you are mentally sick, you are not any good to anyone.

Just A Couple Of Tips

Here are a couple of tips to help you release some stress that you might have. Plan a day to do what you enjoy.

For example, if you like the beach, then go there. The sound of the waves or just the warmth of the sun can help you to relax. If you enjoy hiking, then do it. Walking among the trees and listening to the birds can ease a lot of frustration. If you prefer to do things indoors then do something that you have been wanting to do. No excuses, just do it. There is no shame in taking time for yourself. The healthier that you are physically and mentally, the more you can accomplish. When you are in a better mindset, it is better for everyone.

know many of you are going to say that you just don’t have time. What about sending the kids to grandma's for the day and night? Or ask your spouse to take care of the kids while you have a personal day? You have to make the time because like I said, if you become sick, then you are no good to anyone. You deserve some time to enjoy something and to relax.

Meditation is also something I find to be relaxing. And no I don’t mean for you to sit there with your legs crossed and chant. I mean to just take in the sounds, hopefully, peaceful sounds, around you and think about how your body feels. Do your muscles feel tight or not? Is your skin cool or warm to the touch? Get an idea of how your body is feeling, and then help it to relax. Listen to the sounds, like the birds, chirping, or the noises of the crickets. Let your mind release the stresses of the day. Stop thinking about what needs to get done at least for a while. Let it go and relax. You can do this almost anywhere as long as you are not disturbed.

So, if you take anything away from this article, please let it be that it is healthier for you and everyone around you, that you take time for yourself. And don’t be ashamed that you need that time.
